Quinta do Casal Monteiro, Grande Reserva

2020
DoTejo DOC
Grande Reserva

Over decades of growing and vinifying our estate vineyards grapes, we identified a single parcel that consistently produces fruit of exceptional quality and gives rise to our finest red wines. Planted over 35 years ago with Cabernet Sauvignon, Touriga Nacional, and Syrah, these vines are meticulously managed with a clear focus on quality rather than yield, allowing this remarkable site to express the full potential of our Tejo terroir. The result is our Grande Reserva Red – the ultimate expression of this exceptional vineyard.

Winemaking

Each grape variety was harvested at its optimum level of ripeness and vinified separately to preserve its individual character and maximise its quality potential. Alcoholic fermentation took place over approximately seven days in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Following fermentation, the Cabernet Sauvignon and Touriga Nacional lots underwent an extended maceration (cuvaison) of around one month until the completion of malolactic fermentation, enhancing colour intensity, structure, and complexity. The final blend was then assembled and matured for 16 months in new French oak barrels, resulting in a wine of remarkable depth, elegance, and seamlessly integrated oak.

Food Pairing

An excellent match for grilled rib of beef, roast lamb, venison, game birds, and slow-braised beef dishes. It also pairs beautifully with wild mushroom risotto, aged Cheddar, Comté, and mature hard cheeses. Its depth, refined tannins, and beautifully integrated oak make it an ideal companion for hearty British cuisine and elegant, slow-cooked dishes.
